When in comes to preparing food, summertime has it all over the other seasons, according to me, at least. One of the reasons I find it so much easier, no matter how busy I am, is that I can enjoy raw, chilled and grilled foods without turning on the oven.
To be successful in making nutritious snacks and meals at home, you must first have food! A well-stocked kitchen is key to being able to create something healthy, without having to run out to the grocery store.
So where to begin? Here a short list of staples I keep on hand at all times that you might want to stock your kitchen with, too:
I love milk and just about every food that falls into the dairy category. Fortunately, I don’t suffer from lactose intolerance. But, according to The Mayo Clinic, there are about 3 million annual cases of people in the United States alone who don’t have the ability to fully digest sugar (lactose) in dairy products. That’s when uncomfortable symptoms, such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, flatulence, bloating and nausea, can present themselves. Not good!
